Wire Rope Manufacturers

Dr Gerhard Rebel
Senior Consultant - Mining Ropes
CASAR Drahtseilwerk Saar GmbH

Hoisting ropes in underground mining operations play a vital role in the production cycle, not only to hoist minerals but also to transport employees and materials safely and efficiently. Winding ropes are clearly safety critical throughout their operating life. CASAR specialises in this technology and is the world leader in the manufacture of sophisticated wire rope products for a broad range of lifting applications. In Australia CASAR has established a strong position in the mining industry supplying some 50% of the rock winder rope market and is in the process of doing the same in other mining countries, including South Africa. CASAR is a family owned business located in Kirkel, Germany. The company was established in 1948.
We are capable of assisting our clients to reduce winding rope owning costs by offering ropes capable of operating at least twice as long compared with conventional six strand and multi-layer ropes. This is as a result of a significant difference in quality and design of the rope constructions (including galvanising, compacted strands and a plastic layer between steel core and the outer strands). The use of these ropes on mine winders also reduces the amount of maintenance required during their service lives such as backend pulling (drum crops). A standard triangular strand rope on a drum winder needs a drum crop every 10000 to 15000 cycles. With an eight strand CASAR DUROPLAST rope this can be increased to circa 40000 to 55000 cycles.
