Endurance analysis of wire ropes as used in deep extraction installations
A qualitative analysis shows that the behavioural variations are explained by the fatigue behaviour of four different wire ropes as used in Koepe monocable hoisting installations. The mining installation, the working conditions of cables and their geometric characteristics are given. A comparison of the endurance of the cables is discussed, indicated by the quantity of material carried and number of load cycles. The best performance is obtained from cables with external strands on a solid plastic core which influences the pressure distribution in the cable, which has a direct link to the geometric morphology.
