Factors of safety are requirements in safety regulations. They take into account risks of service conditions and possible events of damage and its premature prediction respectively prognosis. An uniform definition does not exist how the technical application of ropes demonstrates. The safety factor of crane-ropes for instance depends on the group of machinery in use. Extensive investigations of the comportment of ropes under service conditions finally give the chance increasing service life of ropes and thereby lifting the safety level by amelioration of prognosis for discarding maturity.
