Strength conditions for rope systems in accordance with the European Standard EN 13001-3.2

Rope systems of the hoisting mechanisms in cranes, personnel and good lifters, etc, are especially important units in those machines, because degradation of the rope has a big influence on the further safe operation. The design of the rope systems of cranes should actually be based on new European Standard EN 13001-3.2 “Cranes- General Design-Part 3.2: Limit States and Proof of Competence of Wire Ropes in Reeving Systems”, that is now approved. In this article the authors show the main ideas in the new European Standard, and especially the conditions for the checking of static and dynamic strength of ropes.
