75 years of wire rope research in Stuttgart*

To describe the wire rope research in Stuttgart over 75 years means first of all to leave out things and to reduce the report. Therefore, I will report from many activities of the Institute only in a brief way. Instead of this, I will inform in a little more detail - as a main focal point - about the work necessary to determine the wire rope endurance in rope drives. This task, which is always connected with determining the end of the wire rope service life, was something that the Institute was engaged with all the time. This report will mention a Iot of authors with their contributions to the wire rope research. But in the reference Iist only those authors will be cited from whom a diagram or an equation are presented. My report is simply arranged in chapters related to the respective head of the rope department of the time.
