A few proposals towards a unified approach to the problems of wire rope endurance. English translation of the text presented on December 4th 1979 to the OIPEEC Management Board meeting in the Technische Hochschüle - ZURICH

When we attempt to provide a synthetic account of the 'state of art' in the field of wire rope endurance, we find ourselves confronted with considerable difficulties stemming from the variety of different languages and approaches that are currently being used. This divergence is due to the fact that all the experts, scholars, builders and inspectors working in this field are trying to improve the level of knowledge in their own particular sphere of activity and in connection with specific applications, and no attempt is made to identify common features and work out procedures of a more general validity.
