A method of calculating the hoisting cycles of a rope as a function of stress to the point of discarding

The number of hoisting cycles to discard in mines is between 100,000 to 500,000 depending on the working load. Based on damage analysis, measurements under working conditions and laboratory tests a method has been developed to calculate the number of hoisting cycles to discard. The method takes into account static and dynamic loads as well as other unquantified influences. The decrease of hoisting rope capacity due to wire damage in a new rope can be appraised by laboratory tests in combination with the calculation method described.
