A Review of: Wire rope grip terminations, a report by C.H.H. Corden, published by HSE (UK)

A report of tests on wire rope terminations using various different bolted rope grips (but with a primary emphasis on grips to 88462) has been written by C.H.H. Corden and published by the UK Health and Safety Executive. This report is reviewed and its findings are discussed. The overall conclusions of this important work indicate that the efficiency of this type of termination is critically dependent on the tightening torque applied to the grips, and the number of grips used, amongst other factors. Relaxation over a period of time also indicates that unless installation and maintenance practices can ensure that torques are set and then kept to specified levels the efficiency of such a termination can be dangerously below expected values.
