ACCELERATED FATIGUE TESTS on WIRE ROPES; RESULTS and DISCUSSION

ABSTRACT

The characteristics of the rotary bending machine for accelerated fatigue tests on wire ropes built at the Laboratory of the Department of Mechanics and Aeronautics, Rome University "La Sapienza", are briefly recalled, and the results of the tests on seven-wire strands are mentioned. The results of new tests on opportunely instrumented wire ropes are then reported; these results are discussed and compared with the results obtained testing ropes of identical construction by means of machines operating in a different way.
