ABSTRACT

ln the tests a single locked coil rope (diameter 31 mm, breaking strength 985 kN) was exposed to alternating bending at the cast socket, as described in Part 1 (O.I.P.E.E.C. Nantes). The present report is a description of the additional tests which show the correlation between lubrication condition, surface temperature and life time of the rope. According to these tests a correlation seems to exist between the surface temperature and the life time of the rope, this is why temperature measurements of the rope surface can be used for a first classification of the lubricants instead of the long lasting fatigue tests.
