CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE PUNCTUAL CONTACT

SUMMARY - In his previous paper dated April 4th 1968 (sent to the O.I.P.E.E.C. members in photocopy) the author analyzed the results of stiffness tests carried out on the "Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussees de Paris". These tests were performed on three wire-ropes Seale 6(1+9+9), called:

 A (d = 16 mm, R = 220 Kgf/mm2) ,

B ( d = 18 mm, R = 180 Kgf/mm2) ,

C (d = 18 mm, R = 220 Kgf/mm2) ,

Endurance tests on these ropes are carried out parallely at " Laboratorio Prove Materiali del Politecnico di Torino", by means of the fatigue machine equipped with rolls (see the report in O.I.P.E.E.C. Bulletin n.12, page 29, October 30th, 1968). The author examines in this paper the possible correlations between the results of the two researches respectively on the stiffness and on the endurance of the ropes.
