Hot metal crane ropes: Magnetic NDT, capacity simulation, strength safety temperature criterion

The problem of safe operation of hoisting ropes in metallurgical works is investigated. Experimental and theoretical simulations are performed to reveal the influence of thermal field and progressive wire strength degradation on the rope residual loading capacity. Based on evaluation of diagnostic indicators derived by magnetic flow nondestructive testing the rope state feature “allowable-caution-prohibited” is described. A two-parameter thermal criterion is used to estimate the rope technical condition under supposed foundry rate and to set the rope testing regulations.
