RoundTable – HOW SAFE IS A ROPE? – Krakow 1981

 Introduction

Torsion tests serve to determine the deformability of wires in the case of torsional deformation in one direction. They have to be considered as a technological quality control and are also used for checking the uniformity of the wire. The minimal number of torsions, however, is subject to incessant contestations because there is only a very insufficient number of exact data existing with regard to the relation between the number of torsions of wires and the operational performance of the ropes.
