RoundTable – HOW SAFE IS A ROPE? – Krakow 1981

  1. Introduction

When defining the operational life of ropes, the possibility of mathematic description of parameters, determining about the condition of the rope such as the progressive elongation or the number of broken wires is to be considered as a very important and helpful factor. Both the a/m phenomena accompanying the progressive steel wire rope fatigue may be described by a kinematic model which accounts for the resulting changes of parameters /1/. Fatigue elongation of ropes was-subject o!' numerous tests /1, 3/ which provided basis for establishing reliability models /2/ allowing to draw prognoses on the operational life of rope.
