Introduction

Today Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is the most suitable test procedure for assessing internal rope condition. With NOT, wire breaks, corrosion etc. can be detected very reliably on the freely accessible rope parts. Only the "first" and "last" metres of the rope before terminations, saddles/shoes or roller chain areas for example could not be tested up to now (Figure 1 ).
