RESEARCH ON MAGNETO‐INDUCTIVE ROPE TESTING
Summary
Since the establishment of the Institute for Material Handling and Logistics (IFT), research has been done on the subject of magneto-inductive rope testing (MRT) [1]. The latest developments were the implementation of new possibilities for the evaluation of the MRT measurement, usage of new materials and technologies for the devices themselves and research on discard criteria for running wire ropes used in lifting applications. Developments in material and manufacturing processes give the opportunity to design MRT devices with new concepts. The research on discard criteria was driven because of the implementation of MRT discard criteria to ISO 4309. Bending tests with different rope constructions were done to verify the newly implemented discard criteria. For this, the ropes were inspected visually and with MRT and opened after reaching the discard criteria.
