I received four papers and reports on the subject of the theme which was assigned to me. They all are about observations and findings on the industrial uses of wire ropes in working conditions in various industrial uses, primarily cableways and funiculars. They contain references to the causes of the deteriorations which were noticed, and also proposals intended to improve both the working conditions and thence the life of the rope, and knowledge of their capacity to resist the stresses deriving from the work lo which they are subjected.
