Results of Wire Rope Research as well as of Wire Rope Control and Conclusions for New Aspects in Laying Down Control and Discard Criteria

Issuing from the wire breaking determined during the test of different wire rope constructions under different test parameters in wire rope fatigue testing machines and from their interpretation under specific aspects, conclusions are drawn on the actual relevance to the wire breaking for the assessment of wire rope constructions, stranding technologies as well as wire material and fibre material, for the problems of wire rope dimensioning for operational life up to the critical state and for the damage behaviour of the wire ropes under the operational conditions up to the critical state. It became clear that there is a necessity of assigning special control technologies and special criteria for the discard of wire ropes to the damage behaviour of the wire ropes in rope drives with high shearing coefficients.
