Strain gauge measurements at multi-strand non spinning ropes

Some questions from users of steel wire ropes put the special attention of the Delft research group "wire ropes" recently on stresses in multi-strand non spinning ropes. - At first there was an urgent question on the causes of corkscrews in multi strand ropes, which asked for more insight into the load distribution of such ropes. Secondly some users of mobile cranes asked for an explanation, why with such ropes always a factor of use being six is standardized in the Dutch Standard NEN 3508, - Such kind of ropes being not yet verified for the hypothesis of our laboratory on the bending stress, it was also in that respect interesting to perform a lot of tests on that rope type.
