RoundTable – WIRE ROPE DISCARD CRITERIA - Zurich 1989

The wear and weakening of hoisting ropes may be caused by fatigue and wire rupture, corrosion and abrasive wear of wires, deformation, etc. The maximum wear criteria looked for may relate to single factors resulting in rope weakening or to the total weakening resulting from many factors. The paper discusses two supplementary methods for evaluation of the increasing wear of mining hoisting ropes. The first one bases upon evaluation of the increase in fatigue wire cracks. The second method analyses the rope elongation, corresponding to the total rope weakening due to many factors.
