Symbols for the loading elements of wire ropes in rope drives

This paper proposes a set of definitions for symbols to be used for describing different elements in the loading sequence of wire ropes in running rope systems. ln one working cycle a wire rope is generally stressed as a result of passing over sheaves and through changes in the wire rope tension. To get a better overview and a guideline for endurance calculations, symbols for the loading elements need to be defined so as to describe the loading sequence in a rope drive.
