The influence of the hot-dip zinc coating on the fatigue durability of high carbon steel wires
Hot-dip zinc coating of high carbon steel wires results in a decrease of their fatigue strength which in turn causes a reduction in the fatigue strength of ropes. An analysis of the factors which can decrease the fatigue durability of wires with a hot-dip zinc coating compared to the wires without coating is discussed in this work. It is found that the surface structure of the steel has an essential influence on the fatigue strength of wires whereas the geometrical structure of the wire surface is not a dominant factor.
