Torsion and bending stresses in wires of non-rotating tower crane ropes
Technical Meeting Experiences with Ropes – Lenzburg 2003
The simulated predictions of a specific Ø14 mm 18x7 rope are presented and compared to experimental data. ln this study, a novel model of the stresses in individual wires of a general rope is shown. This model accounts for the double-helix configuration of each wire in the rope. The model is used to predict the mechanical response of a rotation-resistant tower-crane rope. These predictions are in agreement with new experimental data, thus validating the model. The new model is then utilised to simulate fatigue failure of individual wires by considering tension-tension loading and using the two-term fatigue model.
