RoundTable – HOW SAFE IS A ROPE? – Krakow 1981

 Introduction

The problem of safety of wire ropes is met with in many papers dealing with the  rope discarding criteria in rope transport installations. Analysing the conclusions of those papers it can be said, that the ways of solving the problem can differ from one another. The authors considering the rope discarding criteria tend to determine, with the smallest error, the actual state of the rope. This is why the problem of a high measuring accuracy, as an all-important one, is placed before the designers of the weakening of the rope. Despite the difficultie arising in solving this problem, it can be stated, that there are already the devices which allow, with a great accuracy, to determine the weakening stage of the rope caused by the alteration of its cross sectional area.
