Wirelets for assessing the condition of ropes: a dive into magnetic signals

The magneto-inductive method has long been used for assessing the inner condition of steel wire ropes used in aerial ropeways, cable-stayed bridges, mine shafts and generally in the hoisting industry. Due to the complexity of the physics involved and the inner limits of the magnetic method, standard techniques used to identify rope failures were soon found to be either inaccurate or incomplete. This paper introduces a modern and easy-to-use innovation named Wirelets, aimed at improving the assessment of rope condition.
