Bending-tension fatigue in offshore rope applications

This paper provides an outline of some of the problems encountered in the offshore applications of wire rope. One specific loading mechanism, Bending-Tension, is identified and discussed in detail. This particular form of loading is considered to be of major significance in determining the endurance of ropes in a range of applications and therefore makes a suitable focus of attention for the OIPEEC Working Group B4 - Offshore Applications.
