Calculation of rope endurance whether the cause may be wear or fatigue.
According to Bahke' the steel wire rope might have been invented as a solution for the fatigue factures in chain links signalized in 1825. At the time these chains were used in mines for lifting purposes. The sketch of a water driven wire rope testing machine is ascribed to Albert and is shown in many publications. It is supposed this machine was built to investigate the above mentioned fatigue fractures in chain links .
