Damage study for a cable submitted to reverse bending over pulleys
Reverse bending is here decomposed into two parts : a simple bending and a ''reversal'', then the cumulative law of Miner is applied. The number of cycles to failure under reversal stresses, Ni, can be calculated from simple bending and alternate bending test results .The application of this theory to the C0MMA I results shows that the variation of Ni as a function of σ and d/D is of the same type as the one obtained with simple bending cycles. Life time estimates made for various pulley-systems show important deviation in comparison with the classical method.
