Discard Economics of Wire Ropes
RoundTable – WIRE ROPE DISCARD CRITERIA - Zurich 1989
The problem is examined of unbiased selection of the limiting wear for steel wire ropes due for discarding and work conditions (excluding damage incurred during manufacture, transportation and assembly) - on the basis of minimization of the cost associated with the discard decision. The inspection procedure regarding the condition of the selected rope its service-life parameters, and the work regime- are considered. Ropes are categorized according the amenability to systematic inspection (accessible/inaccessible) and to reservability (singe/multiple-parallel). The adopted limiting wear crilterion is the number of wire breaks per twist.
