Endurance analysis of wire ropes as used in deep extraction installations
Technical Meeting - Endurance of Wire Ropes under Fluctuating Tension – Stuttgart 1995
- Introduction
The fatigue behaviour of four different wire ropes as used in Koepe monocable hoisting installations is analysed. The mining installation, the working conditions of cables and their geometric characteristics are given. A comparison of the endurance of the cables is discussed, indicated by quantity of material carried
and number of load cycles. The best performance is obtained from cables with external strands
on a solid plastic core. A qualitative analysis shows that the behavioural variations are explained by the influence of the pressure distribution in the cable, which has a direct link to the geometric morphology.
