Experience with the design, calculation and service life of the "long splice" type of rope connection
The haul mpes of circulating passenger ropeways are long-spliced to form an endless loop. The long splice, meaning the joining of two ends of a mpe using friction to engage their strands, is a hand-crafled technique that has been known for quite some time. The efficiency of a long splice is innuenced by the quality of the splice behavior and by fatigue resistance. To understand the influences affecting the functionality of a long splice, it is essential to know the physical principles of function and operation as well as the geometric layout and the applicable normative requirements presented here. The primary object is the establishment of a suitable system of splicing which optimizes functionality as well as the service life for longevity.
