EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS and MODELISATION of the STIFFNESS in TORSION of WIRE ROPES.
ABSTRACT
Wire ropes typical of those used in transportation have been tested following a specific procedure on the 'MEGA' testing machine. During these tests the rope geometry, the rotation at several rope sections, the tensile forces and the moments of torsion were measured. The rope ends can be restrained or rotated to realise controlled twisting or untwisting. The test results are compared with a linear tension-tension model developed from a basis of the model of Costello et al.
