FATIGUE RESISTANCE of LOCKED COIL ROPES
ABSTRACT
On the occasion of the erection and the later following expansion of a stay cable bridge across the Northern Eibe near Hamburg, extensive tests were conducted to determine the fatigue resistance of locked coil ropes, 0 72 mm, newly manufactured and after 25 years under traffic Ioad. The various sockets and determinations as well as relatively exact descriptions of the results allow to demonstrate the influence of the various constructive details on the fatigue of the free field length and the rope areas in the vicinity of the fixed points. The following investigations deal with different amounts of fatigue caused by sockets and determinations. Up to now, test results of a same rope have not been shown in such detail. The influence of utilization is of minor importance in this case.
