Forecasting of rope weakening due to rapid increase of wire breaks
Summary
ln the double-rope hoisting machine for a 970 m - deep shaft, prototype hoisting ropes of 59 mm in diameter have been installed. After a short operation period, on one of the ropes the process of an intensive increase of wire breaks started. This caused concern among the mine's management. The mine did not have stand-by ropes at their disposal. At the same time, in the Central Mining Institute, fatigue tests were carried out with sections of the same rope. 8oth the results of the tests and the theoretical analysis made it possible to forecast the progressive weakening of the rope with a great number of fatigue breaks of the wires. This made it possible to continue operation of the ropes in the mine until new ropes have been made.
