Improved safety of steel wire rope end connections

Conventional pear shaped sockets used on double grooved sheaves suffer from premature rope failure at the entrance of the rope into the socket. The paper analyzes the causes of the damage and presents a new type of socket and a fabrication method which overcome these problems.
