Magnetic method for testing tower crane guy rope terminations: Problems and solutions
Introduction
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a problem for guy ropes on cranes as, as with other installations and structural applications, these ropes are stationary unlike hoisting ropes in shafts and elevators. For this reason, an instrument for rope NOT must be moved along the guy rope rather than fixed as when a hoisting rope is under test. A further complication is that access to the whole guy rope length is not so easy, the top portion of guy ropes on chimneys, TV towers, masts of radio antennas etc. may be at a height of a hundred metres above the ground.
