Summary

ln recent years, considerable progress has been made in the development of theories

and models to predict mechanical characteristics of ropes and strands. As there are

many parameters which can vary in the construction of a strand, it is important to

have a general and accurate model to predict the effects of possible variations of

these parameters on the performance of the strand. From Iiterature surveys to date it

was found that in most of the published papers only analytical and experimental

methods were used.
