New ways for ropes: where to ?

Round Table NEW WAYS FOR ROPES- Luxembourg

 Taking the long history of ropes as a process of collecting facts, together composing the Steel wire rope experience, we now must face the challenge of todays-and of tomorrows demands. I wonder whether these demands can be met by extrapolation of the developments hitherto or if there will be need for innovations. In the latter case new ways should be entered leading from new requirements via research and development towards satisfactoring applications from the point of view of safety and efficiency. What is the starting point?
