Nylon Sheaves and Rope Discarding
RoundTable – WIRE ROPE DISCARD CRITERIA - Zurich 1989
The Delft University of Technology made a lot of research into wire ropes, which had been repeatedly bent over nylon sheaves. The improvement of the endurance and the discard criteria of ropes under such conditions were the aims. The results intend to be a basis for a Dutch standard on the subject, so the criteria available for engineering practice got attention. By now the small number of visible wire fractures is known. In this paper quantitative information on wire fractures will be given as a function of rope endurance. The results of the standard criteria , the electromagnetic detection and the internal inspection will be discussed and compared with the before mentioned relation between wire fractures and rope endurance.
