PRESSURE BETWEEN TAPE AND PULLEY
Pressure between tape and pulley The measurements of Wiek I 1, 2/ and Molkow / 3, 4/ show that the pressure is much higher at the points where the wire rope meets. the pulley than in the resting contact bow between. These pressure peaks a~ the contact points of wire rope and pulley are caused by the bending stiffness of the wire rope. Therefore these pressure peaks will appear in all cases where a stiff tape or wire is stretched over a pulley. In this paper the bending stress in a stretched tape over a pulley and the pressure between the tape and the pulley will be presented. This is much less complicated than the same with a wire rope but nevertheless it shows what happens in principle. Afterwards the differences between bending a tape and a wire rope will be dealt with.
