PROBLEM OF THE DETERMINATION OF THE FATIGUE LIFE OF STEEL ROPES

 Introduction.

For a long time ropes were the only machine elements, which were designed with an assumption, that their time of operation must limited. In spite of efforts of many investigators it has not been succeeded up till now, to develop an accurate method for determining the life time of the ropes. In ·this paper a survey has been made of the existing ways for the determination of the fatigue life of steel ropes with an assessment of their suitability in operation. The base for the assessment were the results of the operational investigations of wear processes end the data concerning the life time of the head ropes in the winding Installations.
