Recognition of the discard state of running ropes by combining different discard criteria
There are quite a number of measuring methods to determine the inner and outer state of a wire rope meteorologically. If the values measured exceed the limits laid down in the standards and regulations the rope must be discarded. However, the recognition of the discard state is always uncertain because the various methods of measuring provide information of varying degrees of accuracy. Briem (1996) has investigated the question of how the recognition of the discard state of wear may be improved by combining various discard criteria. This paper deals with the contents of that treatise.
