This paper is a continuation of few works published earlier which attempted to produce of a simplification for the procedure of estimation of rope quality, especially with respect to their mechanical and technological properties. In the work reported here two pairs of ropes have been considered: ?? ropes with a diameter 22 mm and 32 mm with a construction T6 × 37 + A0 with point contact of wires (conventional) ?? ropes with diameter 22 mm and 32 mm with a construction ST6 × 31(7+12+12) + A0 with a surface contact of wires (compacted). Also in this work the new indicators defined as the ratios of tensile strength to number of twists and numbers of bends have been used. It has been shown how those indicators allow for easy estimation of the quality of ropes. Particularly, it is found that ropes with point-surface contacts of wires exhibit values of indicator “W” lower than the value of this indicator for ropes with the same diameter but with the point contacts of wires. Results of this work confirmed earlier published conclusions concerned with other ropes constructions.
