Summary

Magnetic testing with a permanent field is a basic and widespread method of testing steel ropes during their exploitation. It is however, an intermediate method with many steps of processing. Testing ropes with magnetic method has been developing for over 70 years, and for 24 years studied by the author. Although extensive efforts to solve theoretical problems have brought significant results their continuation brings further progress.
