Torque induced by axial load in a 76 mm wire rope: Comparison of experimental results and theoretical predictions
Round Table The Application of Endurance Prediction for Wire Rope – Reading
Summary
Recent tests on a 76 mm 6x41 wire rope are reported. The torque generated in an 8 m long specimen whose ends were prevented from rotating was measured for axial loads ranging up to 1.4 MN. The results are compared with new theoretical predictions, and with other theoretical results and a range of manufacturers' rules, and encouraging correlations found.
