Two unusual problems arising at the fixing of ropes on drums
Attaching a rope to a drum is a well known procedure. There will be no problems, as long as the attachment is made in an appropriate manner. This paper will describe two unexpected occurrences that arose despite careful installation, owing to less well considered factors. 1. The end of the rope slid out of the clamp even though the device passed the initial examination with five times the expected load. 2. Distortion of the outer layer of wires of a locked coil rope.
