Wire breakages in track ropes caused by martensite building ~ during action of the track rope brake.
Round Table On The Present Trends Of Wire Rope Endurance – Milano 1973
- THE PROBLEM.
It was shown by Wettstein L-1_/ that during track rope braking the temperature of the rope surface would exceed the GOS-line required for martensite build-up and this is due to high speed and surface pressure. Due to the high temperature gradient of the surface wires both heating and cooling are very brisk.
