Working Party 4 Theoretical aspects of wire rope endurance Contribution to a historic review on some studies about stiffness of ropes.
Agreeing to the invitation of the coordinator Dr .Wiek as regards the resumption of the studies on stiffness of ropes, I believe suitable to look into a synthesis of previous researches providing some bibliographic indications ( as for me limited to the French and ltalian literature : I hope that someone else could make the same for German, English , Dutch etc. texts) . Generally speaking, theoretical and experimental research on stiffness aims to the determination of the curvature of a rope loaded by an axial force S under a transversal force T applied by means of a roller with a punctual contact, to allow the evaluation of the bending stresses in the wires.
